In addition to architectural and project management roles in the construction of six new multi million pound operational divisional bases around the United Kingdom and Southern Ireland, Ellis Belk Associates has worked alongside the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in developing their overall Estate Master Planning for their Poole campus.
Following the successful development of the Lifeboat College, Sea Survival building and National Logistics Centre, the whole campus was subject to a review in 2006/7 to ascertain the likely roles and responsibility of the RNLI for the foreseeable future. Staffing levels, office accommodation and car parking provision were considered and the current state of the building stock subjected to rigorous scrutiny with regard to lifetime costs, energy consumption and green credentials.
The boatyard activities were also subject to scrutiny in the light of the campus development and a decision was taken in 2011 to create a British centre of engineering excellence in lifeboat construction and maintenance to secure the RNLI's future in saving lives at sea. This state of the art sustainable boat building facility in Poole will, when fully operational, save the RNLI £3.7m every year. Ellis Belk are proud to have been entrusted with the design of this facility and will be submitting a Formal Planning Application in autumn 2012 with work commencing in early 2013.
